The Importance of Oil Changes

Since you’ve been driving, you’ve probably had the importance of routine oil changes drilled into your head. But, why are oil changes so important? At Hubler Mazda, we want to help you understand why the routine maintenance on your Mazda shouldn’t be skipped. Read on to find out more.

What does oil do?

Your engine is made up of many parts. It’s the oil in your engine’s job to keep those parts lubricated and keep them from overheating. Oil also absorbs particles that you don’t want in your engine. Having old, dirty oil in your car or not having enough of the right oil can cause your engine to break down long before it should, sometimes leading to repairs so costly that you might opt to replace your car instead of making them!

What happens if you don’t get your oil replaced?

Overtime, oil can break down due to high operating temperatures. When the oil breaks down, it doesn’t lubricate as efficiently and the parts of your engine start rubbing together, causing friction that wears the parts down quickly. Also, oil absorbs water, dust, and other particles. Eventually, if your oil is filled with this stuff, it can’t absorb any more. That means those particles stay in your engine and cause corrosion.

If your oil isn’t regularly changed, your engine simply won’t last as long as it really should. This relatively cheap maintenance item keeps you from having to make expensive repairs to your Mazda car or SUV down the line.

How often should my oil be changed and what kind of oil should I use?
